Our next meeting is Feb. 5 at Colony Cottage Recreation Center, going green at 7 p.m. Our guest speaker is the renowned engine builder, Keith Simmons.

Keith started his career in 1971, building cars and engines that dominated on dirt tracks in Iowa and Illinois. This led to success in the ARCA Series during the 1980s.

Simmons moved to North Carolina in the 1990s and worked for Bill Davis Racing, building engines for Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon in Bush Grand National Series.

He succeeded in moving up to the Winston Cup Series, working for Bobby Labonte, Kyle Petty, Sterling Marlin, Richard Childress, Darrel Waltrip and Daytona 500 winner, Ward Burton.

In 2000 Keith moved back to Iowa and became a race track promoter, buying Farley Speedway and leasing Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway, West Liberty Raceway and Davenport Speedway.

Currently, Simmons enjoys restoring championship short track cars of Freeport Speedway.

Meetings are open only to club members, but Villages residents can join at the door. If you are interested, Click Here for more information.
